Problem Gambling for the Beginner
This program is intended for those individuals working in the Behavioral Health, Gambling Abuse Counseling, Substance Abuse and Teaching Fields.Upon the completion of the program the participants should be able to:
Understand the history and social impact of gambling in the United States, as well as the significant literature in the field. Understand the history and theoretical basis for treatment of pathological/ problem gamblers as well as familiarity with current research in the field.
Appraise the effects of problem/pathological gambling on the gambler, personally, interpersonally, financially, as well as management of the disorder, and the recovery process.
Develop an understanding of other addictions, and an ability to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of addiction, treatment, relapse and the recovery process.
Discuss the socialcultural values and attitude systems related to finances, pathological/problem gambling and spiritual concern.
Review effective medical psychological, social service and spiritual management of pathological/problem gamblers, as well as the recovery process.
Problem Gambling: Treating the Family
This program is intended for those individuals working in the Behavioral Health, Gambling Abuse Counseling, Substance Abuse Fields and teaching fields.
Upon the completion of the program the participants should be able to:
·Structure the treatment for the pathological/problem gambler and their families.
·Discuss family counseling and pathological/problem gambler treatment issues.
·Review pathological/problem gambling treatment strategies.
·Develop a knowledge of socialcultural values and effective medical, psychological, social service and spiritual management of the family of the pathological/problem gambler.
·Demonstrate knowledge in interpreting referral sources and their functions to client and family in relationship to their needs.
·Discuss individual and/or group counseling methods including techniques of working with spouses and families.
Problem Gambling: Treatment Strategies
This program is intended for those individuals working in the Behavioral Health, Gambling and Substance Abuse and Teaching field.
Upon the completion of the program the participants should be able to:
·Discuss pathological/problem gambling and treatment planning with ASAM Criteria.
·Review the role of the therapists and meaning of gambling when treating the pathological/problem gambler.
·Appraise Harm reduction in the treatment of pathological/problem gambler.
·Describe the treatment modality of Motivation Enhancement in treating the pathological /problem gambler.
· Discuss relapse, recycle and recovery.
·Understand the steps, traditions and philosophy of Gamblers Anonymous, its relation to various treatments, and the programs of Gam-Anom and Gam-A-Teen, as well as other Self Help Groups.
